George Boldt of Waldorf Historia fame in New York began work in 1900 on a truly monumental token of love and admiration to his wife Louise. After purchasing the Island, he had it dynamited into its heart-shape. Granite was quarried in from Oak Island 10 miles from the site. This million dollar plus estate includes… 11 castle buildings, a large boathouse for a fleet of steamships and tall stepped mast yachts. A total 120 rooms ; not including Wellesley Island that hosts 1500 acres farmland, polo fields, 6 villas and a 50 room cottage.
